The LG HS102 compact projector is the company’s first portable device.
How small is it? The HS102 measures 154mm x 117mm x 50mm and weighs only 780g, so you can easily carry it in a bag. Announced last year, it’s available now for around £500.
“This is the first time we’ve launched a truly mobile projector to the UK market,” explains Soyeon Shin, IT marketing manager, LG Electronics. “With the HS102 – our smallest, most lightweight projector to date – we’re certain that it will be popular with business users and consumers.”
No compromises?
Following up the older HS101, LG claims that the HS102 doesn’t compromise on technology. But there’s always going to be some corners cut on a device this size.
For example, the HS102 isn’t HD-capable and it lacks a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio.
Nevertheless, it does include DivX-compatibility for video playback and the HS102 can read MP3s and photo files directly from devices connected via USB.
The diminutive HS102 can also project a 4:3 image up to 60 inches across, making it ideal for dramatic PowerPoint presentations, less so for movie watching. It also includes integrated speakers and an infra red remote control. A two-hour external battery is an optional extra.
LG is also keen to point out the green credentials of the HS102. It uses an LED bulb, which not only lasts the entire lifetime of the projector, but uses less power and is free from mercury.
Finally, the overall picture quality is improved by using LG’s Digital Fine Contrast (DFC) technology, which produces a wider colour range, improved contrast and helps eliminate motion blur and colour break up.
